Christoph Bieber (*1970) is a political scientist and has taken over the Welker Foundation Chair for “Ethics in Political Management and Society” at the NRW School of Governance at the University of Duisburg-Essen in 2011. From 1990 to 1995 he studied political science and German at the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen and at the Free University Berlin. He then completed his doctorate at the University of Giessen on “Political Projects on the Internet”. During his time as research assistant at the Institute of Political Science (2001 to 2008) he was involved in the founding and establishment of the Centre for Media and Interactivity (ZMI) in Giessen.

Bieber researches and publishes on ethics and responsibility in politics, transparency and public communication as well as democracy and new media. Since 2000 he has been a member of the board of politik-digital e.V., the supporting association of the online platform of the same name, from 2013 to 2017 he was a member of the WDR Broadcasting Council. In 2016 Bieber was a guest in the residence program “Vila Sul” of the Goethe-Institut Salvador-Bahia (Brazil).
