Composition studies with Günther Becker and Dimitri Terzakis at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf. Computer music seminars with Klarenz Barlow at the Musikhochschule Köln. Postgraduate studies with Hans Zender (composition) and Hans-Dieter Resch (conducting) at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main.
His oeuvre includes works for various instrumentations and electronics, which have been performed at concerts and radio broadcasts in numerous European countries (including BBC London, HR Frankfurt, WDR Cologne, NDR Hamburg, Radio Bremen, SFB Berlin, VPRO Radio Holland, VRT Radio Belgium, ORF Vienna, Polskie Radio, Radio Nacional de Espana and Swedish National Radio) as well as in North and South America, Asia and Australia.
Between 1991-93 he developed an algorithmic composition software (AFSTS 1) for image-time related media. 1994-96 he was chairman of the music department of the Künstlergilde NRW, 1997-2000 deputy federal chairman. Banasik was co-founder and artistic director of the ensemble “Go Ahead” for contemporary music. He organized and conducted various concert series, multimedia events with electroacoustic works and university symposia. In 2011 he was mentor and curator at the FFT’s “Interface” Sound-Art Festival.
Lectureship for Audiovisual Design (Media Composition / Sound) at the Hochschule Düsseldorf / Peter Behrens School of Arts. Member of the Institute Bild.Medien at the HSD. Director of the studio for electronic music and the composition class for computer music at the Clara-Schumann-Musikschule Düsseldorf.
