Annette Heuser is executive director of the Prof. Otto Beisheim Stiftung in Munich, Germany. The private, non-partisan foundation, established in Munich, is both operational and grant-giving. Its work focuses on providing opportunities for children, young adults, and the aging population in Germany, in the areas of education, health, culture and sports. The foundation places a particular focus on enabling social entrepreneurs, as well as strengthening and professionalizing organizations.
Formerly, Ms. Heuser was executive director and founder of the Washington, DC office of the Bertelsmann Foundation, which promotes and strengthens trans-Atlantic cooperation. She previously established the Bertelsmann Foundation’s Brussels office and served as its executive director from 2000 to 2006. From 1995 to 2000, she was director Europe/USA at the Bertelsmann Stiftung in Gütersloh, Germany. In this function, she managed European and trans-Atlantic projects, and developed European networking activities.
In the corporate sector, Ms. Heuser served as vice president of international relations at Bertelsmann AG (now Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA), Europe’s largest media company.
Ms. Heuser studied political science, law and sociology at the University of Mainz in Germany. Ms. Heuser is a board member of the Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen, the European Council on Foreign Relations, the Atlantic Council Board of Directors and its Strategic Advisors Group.
